Tom’s practice includes administrative, tort, professional negligence, and contract litigation, along with professional discipline, government and regulatory matters. He regularly works with regulators, professionals, businesses, and institutional clients across a range of industries, including accounting, healthcare, government and public policy, real estate, and international trade.

His experience includes acting as counsel for Canadian securities regulators, institutional accounting firms, and large and small businesses, and as counsel for Engineers and Geoscientists BC and the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia in professional disciplinary matters. He has also worked on disputes involving civil fraud, government expropriations, and contractual disputes, and professional liability claims involving accountants and other professionals.

Tom has developed meaningful advocacy experience early in his career. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of British Columbia as lead counsel, supported clients through examinations for discovery, and has participated in mediations involving complex commercial disputes.

His recent work includes negotiating a significant civil forfeiture settlement through detailed financial analysis, obtaining default judgment to stop an ongoing commercial fraud, and successfully defending real estate investors in litigation involving allegations of mortgage fraud. He has also contributed to matters involving charter principles, statutory interpretation, and the exercise of public authority in the civil forfeiture context.

Before joining the firm, Tom clerked for five justices of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, where he gained valuable insight into how courts assess evidence, evaluate legal arguments, and approach judicial decision making.

Tom approaches litigation with a focus on preparation, practical problem-solving, and identifying the issues most likely to influence the outcome of a matter. He enjoys breaking down complex problems and developing clear strategic pathways for clients facing difficult disputes.
