Prosecuted Mount Polley engineering discipline proceeding resulting in unprofessional conduct findings

The Engineers and Geoscientists BC Discipline Committee found that Fidel committed several instances of unprofessional conduct while serving as Project Manager and Engineer of Record for the Mount Polley Mine tailings storage facility. The findings included inadequate observation and monitoring of the dam, failure to ensure an excavation at the embankment toe was properly assessed, and sealing design documents without sufficient review. The Panel emphasized, however, that her conduct was not found to have caused or contributed to the 2014 dam breach, and several allegations were dismissed. She received a two-month suspension, was required to complete three remedial courses, and no costs were awarded.
